Frequently Asked Questions
When possible the native project package (usually Adobe InDesign or Adobe Illustrator) is best.
If that is not possible a PDF exported from the project is the next best choice.
Avoid submitting stand-alone images like .JPG and .PNG whenever possible. If this is all that’s available, please check to see if they have sufficiently high resolution for the print size you’re looking for.
Print resolution is 300 pixels per inch, considerably higher than the 72 pixels per inch typical computer monitors use.
For every 1″ of print size you should have 300 pixels of image for the best quality print.
For example, to print a 10″ x 10″ flyer from a raster image the image should be at least 3,000 x 3,000 pixels.
When your pieces print they will be printed on sheets larger than their final size and trimmed to size. Regardless of the equipment used, sometimes the paper can shift slightly during the trimming process. By printing an extra 1/8″ around the intended final piece we can ensure a clean edge with no blank edges every time.
Adding bleeds needs to be done before exporting to PDF. In Adobe Creative Cloud applications this is done in the Document Setup window. In Canva this is done by first clicking File > Settings > Show Print Bleeds and downloading the final design using the “PDF Print” option.
Assuming sufficient pixel density it is possible to adjust the scale of printed pieces. Please be aware that the aspect ratio of the revised size must match the original size. A 10″ x 10″ flyer can be scaled to 20″ x 20″ as this is a 1:1 match. A 10″ x 10″ flyer cannot be scaled to 15″ x 20″ and attempting to do so would distort the image.
